Montessori 3 Lesson: Cars
We did this activity following our Car Walk. It follows the principles of The Montessori 3 Period Lesson. The steps are listed below. We did this with colors of cars.
The Montessori 3 Period Lesson:
1. Identifying Objects. Pick up object it let the child handle it while saying name of the object several times.
2. Association and Recognition. Ask your child to show you the correct object by pointing or bringing it to you as your say the name. If they can't, go back to First Period. Once they correctly identify objects move on.
3. Recall. Ask child to recall what he has learned by pointing to an object and asking the child "what is this?" If your child can't, return to step 2.
Put the three cars out on a mat or in a designated space.
Invite your little one over by saying something such as; "do you want to come play a car game?" We followed the steps described above with the cars.
We started by playing with the cars a little. I used color names to describe the cars. Ex: "You are driving the yellow car"
Next, we "parked" the cars on our mat and then took turns finding the car of the correct color. "Can you drive the red car to me?" Our twos did well with this so we moved to stage three.
This is the labeling stage where they recall the name on their own. For example, "what color car is this?" while I pointed to a car. If they labeled it correctly, they got to drive it around the mat and then re-park it for the next person's turn.
