The color box was inspired by a French Montessori-inspired blog BeBeLiv that I stumbled across and the Montessori infant "treasure basket" idea. My interpretation was to create a green box and fill it with an assortment of green items from around our house. This could be done with any color, but with our frequent walks to the park nearby, our visit to the Olbrich conservatory, and our upcoming annual trip to Irish Fest - Green has been everywhere in our children's lives. I covered a diaper wipes box in green construction paper and filled it with all things green: binder divider, lunch box, rattle, cup, potato scrubber, comb, flannel, cotton material, and blocks. These are items for your child to explore with their senses and to begin to grasp the early concept of what a particular color encompasses.

Assorted Green Items
Try a different color or with older children have them help you find items for color boxes or sort items into two or three different color boxes.
