Often, with bambini, the simplest activities are the most fun. This is one of the easiest and most entertaining afternoons I have spent with tiny tots. Whether your child finds some sticks, as in the case of my curious little toddler, or you provide them with some to explore, sticks are fun to bang. Sticks in general are fascinating to little kids. Often, this is discouraged and I understand the concern about children hitting each other with sticks, or worse. However, if supervised, finding a fun outlet for this stick curiosity is better than fighting it. Here are a couple of ideas;
* Bang them together. Try modeling different tempos or banging them hard or soft.
* Bang them on things such as the ground, a wall, a rock. Talk about the different sounds you hear. How loud or soft different surfaces sound against the sticks.
* Use them to make music, similar to rhythm sticks. We banged them together and sang songs...with gusto.
* Have a stick band parade.
What else can you use to make noise?
What does your child like to do with sticks outside?
How can you extend that?
We'd love to hear your ideas!
