Best Books About Transportation
Our twins were obsessed with all forms of transportation when they were toddlers. They are four now and still haven't quite outgrown their fascination. This is a common interest for young children. Who doesn't love a good rumbling truck? Books are a fun way to expand vocabulary and start conversations. Here are our favorites about transportation.

Trucks Go by Steve Light
There is a whole series now of these board books. They are all full of fabulous bold illustrations and celebrations of noises. Of all the transportation books about sounds we like Steve Light's onomatopoeia the best.
What Do Wheels Do All Day by April Jones Prince
This is a unique look at transportation entirely focused on wheels.
On The Road by Susan Steggall
This book follows a family as they drive in their car. Lots of great positional vocabulary and plenty of diverse transportation types.
Good Night Engines by Denise Dowling Mortensen
There is also a Wake Up Engines by the same author and illustrator. We LOVE them both, even though they are quite similar. Both tell the parallel story of a little boy playing with various trucks and cars as he begins or ends his day, as real life trucks and cars start or end theirs. Creative storytelling, great language usage, and fun illustrations. These are favorites in our home.
The Big Book of Things That Go by DK Publishing
Amazing non-fiction book for toddlers and preschoolers about anything and everything that goes. Huge variety, nice layout, simple facts about a diverse range of transportation.
Choo Choo Clickety Clack by Margaret Mayo
I love the rhythm of the words in this book. It will also help to expand your child's vocabulary and broaden their familiarity with different forms of transportation. Bikes, motorcycles and cable cars are so rarely included.
Toot Toot Beep Beep by Emma Garcia
This is one of my favorite toddler books about transportation. Great sounds - perfect for reading before or after your sound walk!
Cars Hushing! Honking! Zooming! by Patricia Hubbell
Great use of action words and inclusion of all kinds of cars - this is really a celebration of the cars that drive us everywhere. This is the third in Hubbell's series of trucks and trains on the move.
