Book Review: Hello Bali
We were thrilled to be offered a copy of Giselle Shardlow's Hello, Bali to review. My toddlers and I got in the habit of doing yoga together this winter as one of our ways to keep active. We have found yoga stories to be a great way to engage and sustain interest in yoga poses and we were excited to try out a new yoga story. Here are our thoughts on this fun book…
Hello, Bali: A Kids Yoga Island Adventure Book combines yoga and an adventure in a delightful children's book. The story follows Anamika and her family as they vacation in Bali. The brief text describes their adventures exploring the island and invites the reader to join in. Each island activity has a matching yoga pose with a drawing of Anamika modeling it for the reader. These poses and pictures are also included in a guide at the back of the book. Young readers will have fun pretending to surf, ride scooters, and act like a dolphin, while they expand their vocabulary and improve strength, flexibility, and coordination. The simple text makes the book accessible for a variety of ages and invites readers to have conversations about what they see in the illustrations. This provides great opportunities for storytelling and language development. While reading, we had a long conversation about the waterfall picture and about the concept of surfing. The watery illustrations full of cheerful colors and reflect the relaxed vibe of an island vacation throughout the story. Overall, we found Hello, Bali to be an inviting and active adventure we are sure your little reader will enjoy.
