At the Art Table: Playdo Cookies
Making and decorating cookies is one of our main Christmas traditions each year. Young children love repetition and practicing real life experience through play. This is a simple invitation to make Christmas cookies at the art table.
Lay out a playdo mat, playdo, roller, cookie cutters, and decorative items for each child. Our box of cookie cutters was shared and passed around the table.
This was left as an invitation for our twins to stubble upon. They eagerly dove in, excited to see the cookie cutters they remembered from making sugar cookies. We practiced the steps of rolling the dough, pressing in the cookie cutter, removing the "cookie" and then decorating it. Endless conversation and dramatic play accompanied this activity.
Roll playdo back up and store in sealed container. Remove the beads as well as you can.
Most cookie cutters can be washed in the dishwasher. I threw ours in the top shelf to clean.
Rolling Pins (we love these)
Pony Beads or other small items for decoration. (omit if doing with small children)
