Watercolor Painting Invitation
Watercolors are a natural material for depicting watery adventures like the beach or ocean. The paints offer a naturally watery texture that make them my go-to for a water project.
We introduced our twins to watercolors around the age of two, but each time we pull them out we review the process. Watercolors are a great opportunity for little ones to practice following multiple step directions, an important pre-school skill. Today I thought I would share our simple watercolor painting strategy for toddlers and preschoolers. My twins can be heard repeating the mantra "Water. Paint. Paper." whenever they are painting.
They have learned this simple process:
Water: Dip their paintbrush into their water cup
Paint: Dip it into the paint.
Paper: Brush it along their paper.
Watercolor Paper (construction paper works, but watercolor paper is so much better for sopping up the water)
Small Cups for Water
Washcloths or close sink for clean up
*Have photos of ocean views from vacations on hand for inspiration.
