F is for Mem Fox
You're looking at shelves and shelves of alphabetized picture books and you aren't sure where to start. Does this sound familiar? Step into any bookstore or library and it is easy to become overwhelmed. As part of our Homeschool Preschool we have been working our way through that children's book author alphabet finding new favorites and diving deeper into the catalogues of ones we have already met. You can find all of our Author Study Alphabet authors here.
Our author studies involve learning a little about each author and often finding their home on our world map. Then we gather a stack of their books from the library and start reading. We compare and contrast books. We delve deeper into favorite books or characters. Each one is a little different. My goals are always to read good books, introduce the concept of an author, and develop literacy skills.
Today's author is Mem Fox...

Time for Bed
We read this book almost every night when our twins were babies. The language is soft and repetative. The perfect goodnight story for little ones. 0+
Cozy and loving, this is another wonderful bedtime story for little ones. My daughter loves the elephant illustrations. 0+
Hello Baby! combines two of the most amazing children's book creators; Mem Fox and Steve Jenkins. Mem Fox wrote the repetative, silly language and Steve Jenkins' created the playful illustrations. It is a delight for the youngest of audiences. 1+
Ten Little Fingers and Ten Little Toes
This is my personal favorite. It has a lovely universal message and is paired with illustrations by the incomparable Helen Oxenbury. 0+
Where is the Green Sheep?
This is mostly pure silliness. There are playful colorful sheep dancing across the pages, but green sheep is missing. Can you find him? 1+
Yoo Hoo, Ladybug
Interestingly, I learned on her website, this book is called Yoo Hoo Ladybird in Australia. Regardless of the name, the gorgeous illustrations by Laura Ljungkvist make this a fabulous ISPY book for little ones. We did a little color activity based on this book a while ago. 2+
Goodnight Sleep Tight
This is a silly book about a brother and sister and their favorite babysitter. Filled with nursery rhymes and playful illustrations, this was a favorite bedtime story for weeks in our house. 2+
We loved this sweet story about a Koala and her Mama. She is the center of her mom's universe until many more little koalas come along and little Koala Lou isn't feeling so loved anymore. She comes up with a daring plan to regain her mom's affections, but realizes in the end that her Mama loves her no matter what. Great book for kids expecting a new sibling. 2+
This is a Christmas book, so pin it or squirrel it away next year, but it is delightful. Especially for those of us that aren't surrounded by snow covered streets and northern woods animals that time of year, this is a wonderful book to share. 3+
