Bambini Homeschool 8 : Morning Adventures
Every day is a little different in our homeschool preschool, but having a schedule and routines helps to give our three year olds a predictable structure. Last week I started a series sharing our schedule. This is the second post in the series and it gives you a peek at our mornings. We get out of the house most mornings and go on some adventure. Given our recent transition to no-naps, it is possible that we might flip flop this schedule at some point and start going somewhere in the afternoon. For now, this works for us. We also haven't decided for sure whether we are sending our kids to kindergarten or homeschooling them beyond next year, so I also like that this gives us practice with getting out the door (admittedly much later than they will need to for regular school).
7:00-9:00AM Get Ready for Adventures
This was a bit of an unusual week. Daddy was home on Monday for President's Day so the kids spent some time with him on Monday. They went to the hardware store and the grocery store, which they usually do with him on the weekends. Some weeks this is quick and they enjoy pretending to drive the car carts Kroger thankful has for kids, other times we try to involve them more in the shopping. When we do they are learning about where food comes from, practicing counting, helping to read a list, and more.
We also went to the Science Museum in Jackson as a family this weekend. They have a new exhibit about dinosaurs that the kids enjoy and this weekend they had a visiting maps program. They had an enormous map on the floor and played some games with the kids. This was great to further encourage their growing interest in maps.
On Tuesday morning we went to the post office. They love helping me by mailing packages and talking to the postal workers. We mailed some cards and bought some stamps.
Then we went to the Mississippi Children's Museum. I am so glad we have a membership because this is one of our favorite places to visit. On Tuesday we went to story time where they learned about counting, created vases in the art studio, built another wall with the crane which requires a LOT of teamwork, and got an awesome introduction to soccer during their Shake You Sillies Out monthly program.
Thursday we went to the library to get new books and go to storytime. We have gone to the library almost every week since they were babies and if their love of books is an evidence, it has been a success. We always come home with a stack of new books (this week about maps, St Patrick's Day, Matilda, and our new Author Study author Rachel Isadora).
Friday we headed off for a long weekend away with Daddy (more details about that soon). Other frequent morning adventures include: Nature Hikes, Burley Rides to Parks (so we can all get some exercise), MOPS meetings, and trips to the Zoo.
