Impromptu Day at the Beach
Sometimes you just have to go to the beach. At least that's how I feel. I don't think it's any secret I love the beach. Last Fall I woke up one morning and just had an itch. I really wanted to go to the beach.
The weather was nice and my husband is delightfully supportive and impulsive, so we packed up the car with lunch supplies and sand toys and drove to the beach. We arrived in the early afternoon and played for a few wonderful hours in the sand. We dipped our toes in the chilly water and chased our twins up and down the beach. When the sun began to set we packed up our stuff, changed into dry clothes and headed back north. We arrived home late, sleepy, sand covered, and completely happy.
The beach is my happy place. I realize no one can be happy all the time. That being said, it is something for which to strive. We make choices every day. When I can, I choose to be happy. Driving 6 hours in one day with two kids for a few hours at the beach might seem crazy to some, but to me it was a choice to be happy. Life needs more impromptu days at the beach.
