Milwaukee is sometimes called the "city of festivals." The Summerfest grounds along the shore of Lake Michigan are famous for their festivals throughout the summer. The largest of these being Summerfest, an enormous music festival, which runs around the Fourth of July. My personal favorite is Irish Fest which we wrote about in a previous post. During our stop in Milwaukee during our move to Mississippi we went to new-to-us festival, the Dragon Boat Festival. This was located not at the Summerfest grounds, but in Veteran's Park further down the Lake Michigan bank.
The Dragon Boat festival is a celebration of Chinese culture complete with food, games, dancing, and, of course, dragon boat racing. We went on a whim. It was a Saturday and it sounded fun, so Grandma in tow we headed down to the lakefront. We had a blast. The boats were beautiful and fascinating. Our twins had their faces painted and participated in a costumed parade. They loved the dragon dance. It was a delight.
*It is located outside so dress appropriately. In our case, this should have involved an umbrella.
