If your child likes trains this is the perfect December adventure for your family.
Enter the delightfully warm Olbrich building and head towards the right side of the lobby to purchase tickets. You will be directed down a ramp into a smaller room beautifully decorated for the holidays. Typically trains are running on two separate displays on either side of the room. It is a relatively small exhibit, but the tables are low and at the perfect level for toddlers and preschoolers.
I took our twins two years in a row before we moved to Mississippi. The first time they were about 15 months and stood completely transfixed by the trains as they looped around and around. The second time, when they were two, we spent an hour running back and forth between the two trains. At that point they had a wide range of vocabulary and talked endlessly about the trains, their cargo, and the track.
If you live near Madison, I highly recommend this holiday adventure.
*Arrive early and visit during the week if at all possible to avoid the crowds and waiting in line.
*The Botanical Gardens are also open during this time for an additional cost.
