Do you ever want to hop in the car and get away? We like to head to the coast for spontaneous weekends together at the beach. Is there really a better gift than a family getaway? I am happy to introduce Stef from Non Toy Gifts who is here to share a beautiful family weekend getaway idea in Minnesota.
The Gift of Traveling with Kids : Farm Stay
On Non Toy Gifts I share toy alternative gifts for kids. There are everyday gifts, like cooking with your kids or special occasion gifts, like a reading nook for your child's birthday. Today I would like to talk about a "just because" gift.
My husband and I love traveling but traveling with kids is another story that put our plans on hold for a while. Flying with our oldest was almost a disaster when he was a toddler and that's why we promised to restrain ourselves from flying at least until our boys are old enough to enjoy it. With planes off the list, the car remained the only traveling alternative. We wanted our first getaway as a family of four to be as much stressless as possible for us and enjoyable for the kids. A weekend at a goat farm! It sounded like fun and it truly exceeded our dreams. After running a Google search I was able to find one just an hour away from our home in Minneapolis, MN.
Dancing Wind Farm : a place in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by big trees, goats to feed and play with and a fridge packed with local organic produce - that was the recipe for an unforgettable family getaway. Back to a simple life with no flashing toys and no tv. Needless to say that we all had a blast.
We spent our weekend taking long walks into the woods and playing with the goats. The boys couldn't get enough of feeding them and we were happy to take a break from the big city life and just relax.
It's the simple things in life that sometimes become valuable gifts and our stay at the goat farm wasn't only a gift for our little ones, who became familiar with animals that otherwise would see only at the ZOO or in books, but it was for everyone in our family. Disconnected from our regular hectic and busy life, my husband and I were happy to embrace the dolce far niente (the sweetness of doing nothing) and loved every minute of it.
