Christmas is almost upon us and likely you are searching for things to do with your kids. If you happen to live in the Jackson MS area, like we do right now, you have come to the right place today! Much like our Fall Travel Guide, I sharing a list of family friendly events that are happening around the Jackson metro area this Christmas season.
Our family is still relatively new to Mississippi. We are slowly picking up on the local holiday traditions. Christmas in Mississippi is full of lights, carols, and a little Cajun flavor for fun. I am excited to celebrate our second Christmas season here.
83rd Annual Singing Christmas Tree
Held every year at Belhaven University Athletic Bowl, over 100 voices join together to sing Christmas carols. FREE.
The Nutcracker at Ballet Mississippi
Ballet Mississippi performs the classic Christmas ballet, the Nutcracker. You can also attend a Sugarplum Fairy's Tea Party in the afternoon before Saturday or Sunday performances. Get tickets on the website.
The Best Little Christmas Pageant Ever
The Madison Center Players Community Theatre is putting on their annual Christmas show. Friday and Saturday evening at 7:30p and Sunday afternoon at 2:30p. Tickets are $12 for general admission, $10 students/seniors.
Madison Christmas Parade
Marching bands, floats, and more will march into Madison at 9 am. Following the parade there is an awards ceremony, refreshments, and a Christmas tree lighting by the caboose.
Ridgeland Christmas Parade
A Twelve Days of Christmas themed parade marches through Ridgeland this afternoon at 2 pm.
Cajun Christmas at the Natural Science Museum
December 11 or 12
Storytelling, meet the Christmas Gator, make crafts, take your photo with Santa, and listen to holiday music. FREE coffee and hot cider. Gumbo available for purchase.
Cookies with Santa
Santa is at the Jackson Zoo! Visit santa, decorate cookies, do holiday crafts and more. Free for members, general admission is $8/adults and $5/kids.

The Polar Express Train Ride
November 20-December 27
This event is located about 2 hours north of the city in Batesville MS, but for avid train fans the trip might be worth it. See website for specifics and to purchase tickets.
Canton's City of Lights
November 27-December 23
Glittering lights, children's carousel, trolley rides and more. Visit the town of Canton for all kinds of family friendly festivities. Website for details.
Richardson Light Show
Thanksgiving - December 28
Open every evening throughout the month of December, this light show set to music is a fun evening stop. A truly impressive collection of holiday lawn ornaments and decorations gathered into one place. See the website for details.
Christmas in the Park
Winner's Circle Park in Flowood comes to life with glowing lights for the month of December. You can also meet Santa and go on a small train ride. Event happens every evening Monday-Saturday from 5:30-8:00pm. FREE.
A Christmas Carol
Telling the classic Dickens' tale, A Christmas Carol comes to life at the New Stage Theatre. See website for details and tickets.
