Moments from downtown Wisconsin Dells, this is one of the best kept secrets in the dells area. We loved our experience with the Riverside and Great Northern Railway. If you have a little one that loves trains or transportation, this is hands down our favorite activity in the Dells area.
The small train cars and open windows are perfect for toddlers and preschoolers. The conductors and engineers were friendly and enthusiastic. The ride is long enough, but not too long for little attention spans. In the fall, they offer free pumpkins with the price of a train ride. In the summer, they have picnic tables in the shade where you can watch the trains before or after your ride.
A few tips:
*Dress for the weather because the cars are open air. In the fall, we have brought a blanket to wrap around us during the ride.
*Arrive at least 15 minutes before the train departs.
*The train turns around at the end and comes back. Something to keep in mind when choosing your seat.
Children under 3 are free.
Hours vary depending on the time of year - check the website for details.
Ride takes about 45 minutes.
