The MN zoo gets better every year. They have recently put a lot of money into upgrading and adding exhibits. It lacks some of the more exotic animals, like giraffes and elephants, but it has a wide range of animals to see, awesome indoor part for chilly MN winters.
This was a hit every time we went. Get there early to watch the dolphins swimming around in their tank from below as well and don't sit too close unless you're okay with getting splashed.
Located way at the back of the zoo I think the Farm gets missed sometimes but it is definitely worth the stroll to the back of the zoo. In Spring, make sure to visit when the babies animals first arrive. The zoo gets busy, but it is tons of fun to see the little babies everywhere - especially in the farm area.
Walk Through the Rainforest
This is the perfect spot for a rainy or cold day. The rainforest is warm and big enough that your little ones legs can utilize some of that pent up energy. The rainforest is alive with colors, chirping birds, and animals everywhere.
The zoo is a tad pricey. If you live in the area I highly recommend a yearly membership. We had one when we lived in Minnesota and it paid for itself after just a few trips.
