We have visited the city of Chicago twice with our twins. The first was when they were about 10 months old and more recently when they were two. Both times riding the L was one of the highlights for them. Our children have been fascinated by trains for a long time now and riding the L is a greate opportunity to explore this alternative mode of transportation. Both as infants and toddlers, our twins loved the L. It was fascinating people watching and people loved watching them.
Here are a few tips we have learned to make L riding a successful adventure:
*As with all adventures you take with young children, consider mealtimes and naptimes when you are planning your trip.
*During rush hour or special occassions (like the St Patty's Day Parade) carrying your infant in a carrier, rather than a stroller, is advisable.
*Check schedules for the trains on the website beforehand.
*Talk to your child about expectations before you head into the station.
-The L is a convenient form of transportation to get around the city, but you can also just ride it for fun - much like we did on our bus adventure. Park and rides on the outside of the city are an easy way to park your car, take a ride into the city, have a little lunch or adventure, and then ride back.
