What strikes you first is the lovely landscaping and impressive views of the city skyline.
It is a beautiful, peaceful park for walking with tree lined paths and quiet ponds that make you almost forget its proximity to the city.
The park itself is nice, but the zoo is not to be ignored.
It is full of animals large and small. They are in spacious exhibits along well manicured paths.
Best of all, it is free.
Get a map at the main entrance and map out a course. Pick your favorite animals - giraffes and polar bears are always on ours.
We saw them along with the zebras, the lions, and rode the mini-train. We left wanting to see even more.
*Dress for the weather and for doing a lot of walking.
*There is a playground across the street from the zoo if you are still looking for more to do.
