The Saturday morning year-round farmers' market has been help in the historic Market Square plaza for over 260 years. It is the oldest farmers' market in the country that has been held continuously at the same site. During peak season (aka not winter) there are more than 70 vendors selling a wide range of fruits, vegetables, meat, poultry, cheeses, breads, pastries, fresh pasta, cut flowers, soaps, and more.
We went down to the plaza early in the morning. The neighborhood, for me at least, is part of the experience. The nearby harbor, the cobbled streets, the architecture. I love everything about Alexandria. The farmers' market is full of diverse, delicious options. We picked up some fresh fruit and bread for a tasty morning snack. Our twins happily munched away in the stroller while we wandered through the vendors and street art show. This would be on my list of things to do every week if we lived in the area.
*Check website for special events.
*Free street parking around the square during Saturday market hours.
